A morning rain storm sweeps across the bay at Victor Harbor - South Australia. It doesn't deter a couple of sailing enthusiasts that have just cast off from the Victor Harbor yacht club.

Late storm - Goolwa beach

Goolwa Beach is dramatic enough in normal conditions but far more so with grey skies and late afternoon sun. Cocklers continue to dig for cockles while there is time.

Surf Collection

I was thrilled to receive this substantial book in the mail a few weeks ago. Titled the 'Surf Collection' it's one of the heaviest books you can imagine outside the realm of the Greater Oxford Dictionary. It comprises the greatest collection of surfing memorabilia ever put together by co-author and renowned archeologist of surfing, Gerard Decoster.
The book has no contents page and none of its 350 pages are numbered. It's a book to be dipped into without regard to order - each page is an entity and a discovery - a delight to anyone even remotely connected to surfing.
Gerard bought one of my paintings last year all the way from France and I am honoured that this very painting depecting a lone surfer heading for the last waves of the day at Coolum, made it into this historic work.
Thank you Gerard and well done on such a spendid publication.

Carpark full - Waymouth St

Another brushier version of my old favourite. I used a one inch brush on just about everything, including the figures and used a small brush right at the end to do little bits. It gives the work a much freer feel to it.

Beach cricket - Adelaide Oval

Anyone who knows the Adelaide oval will know how fanciful this painting is! It's just a whimsical combination of the most picturesque cricket ground in the world and beach cricket - a form of the game that is played on beaches all around Australia.

Jetty Road

Glenelg - One of the few places that is the same said backwards. It is Adelaide's seaside resort town and home to the fabled Glenelg tram. The old ones are gone now but the new yellow ones look very nice on a rainy day.

I've included a couple of progressive photos of the work in progress.

People's Choice

I've posted this painting before, but do so again because it won the People's Choice award at this year's Loreto Spring Art show as well as selling on the opening night. I regard a People's Choice award as the most satisfying of all awards.

Umpire's picnic

Almost there. This year's entry into the inaugural Cricket Prize depicts a classic game of beach cricket - but wait, there's more. In the background are a group of cricket umpires enjoying their annual beach picnic. They can't help but be involved, with waving arms and glances at light meters. The umpire closest to the action keeps a keen eye on proceeding as the batsmen take a cheeky single!

Moon after rain

Scenes like this are rarely seen outside of a car - but what if we did get out and take it all in. There is a wonderful mystery in a moon drenched landscape. The shadows whisper gently.
